Pursuing Wellness in the PNW: Why I’m Starting a Blog

First of all, hi there. Thanks for reading! Starting a blog has been on my mind for a while, and after recently finishing Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, I knew the timing was right (is there such a thing?). So, here I am. Maybe nobody will ever read this; maybe a lot of people will. The point of this blog is for me to create and share, and if that positively impacts anybody along the way, then that’s great!

Alright. What will I blog about? Great question. “Successful” bloggers (by my imaginary metrics) say that blogs should be focused on one thing (i.e. paleo baking or workouts for busy moms or keeping houseplants alive on the moon). I’m not quite there yet. My overall message is “pursuing wellness in the PNW” which leaves me PLENTY of wiggle room to share many aspects of the things I’m interested in. Perhaps as time passes, I’ll become more focused. Or maybe I’ll continue to be all over the place *shoulder shrug emoji*. Right now, I’m into yoga, plants, meditation, intuitive eating, and trying to make matcha not taste like grass. I don’t know about y’all but I feel like I’m off to a good start.

I’ll round out this short first post with a little background info about me. I’m 25 years old living in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. I’m a school counselor at an elementary school and I LOVE my job. It’s hard, don’t get me wrong. Like knock you down and make you cry on your office floor hard. But the work is amazing and the students are amazing and my team is amazing. I’ll probably share more on my job in another post. I’m an Oregon transplant, and have been enjoying the views here for about 6 years. I live in (what I think is) the cutest condo with my boyfriend, Nic, and my cat, Nemo (more on them later) and I am beyond grateful for the life I live.

Thanks for reading! Check back soon.

Most things have been done, but they have not yet been done by you — Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic

  1. Hi Kelly! I lived in Portland and Seaside when I was in my mid/late twenties. My blog is so super specific (really, it’s a healthy-habit journal for myself), that I figured no one would read it, lol! Maybe my journal will evolve over time, maybe yours will too. Looks nice so far! I found yours by searching “headstand” in wordpress, lol.

    1. Love it!! Thanks for sharing. I keep reminding myself that I’m doing this blog because I enjoy doing it and not so I get lots of follows or likes but it’s hard not to get caught in that trap sometimes! Thanks for the reminder 🙂

      1. Yeah I don’t know how the different pages work on different phones/computers/etc! I understand about getting caught up in likes/follows; I’m also trying to remind myself that its for myself at the end of the day and I don’t want to “change” it too much to try and appeal to readers. I definitely don’t expect my “followers” to keep up with all of my posts, lol!
